6071 Students/Community Impacted As one of the six Project Funds supported by the Foundation, it is our hope that our Champion Projects help the children and youth at ECS to: nurture their moral and spiritual development; develop their leadership and team-building skills; and to practice their Catholic social justice responsibilities.
Katherine Therrien | A Centre of God's Beauty
The goal of this project is to help students find their creativity and contribute to a product that they may not always have the opportunity to do: produce a play. Students will be selecting a one-act play to produce, and through this, it is a goal that students develop the following: leadership skills, confidence, creativity, working-relationships, community, an interest in the arts, and an understanding of different ways to communicate ideas.
St. Matthew | St. Matthew Elite Trainers
The goal of the project is to get seniors and children interacting by spending time doing enjoyable activities together. We want to help bring seniors and students together to form fun and meaningful relationships. Both groups have so much to teach and learn from each other that the result of this project will be magical. Each generation can learn from each other. The seniors are given an opportunity to develop meaningful connections with youth that extend beyond family and acquaintances. Seniors are able to mentor younger people, which gives them the sense of purpose and accomplishment.
St. Matthew | Building a Better Tomorrow
The Building a Better Tomorrow Today! is to provide healthy and locally grown produce to low-income members in our community, while learning about nutrition. Another goal for this project is to give each student at St. Matthew School to be truly rooted in Jesus by having an active part in the school-based community garden and experiencing how it can positively impact those in our community.
St. Charles | Moving with God
"Moving with God" is an idea that will connect four Catholic Schools together that all share the same parish, St. Charles Parish. The grant funds will be used to purchase two DrumFIT kits and a 3-year Play N' Go curriculum license, and will be shared amongst 4 different schools throughout the school years.
Christ the King | DancePL3Y Residency
The DANCEPL3Y residency develops physical literacy through dance. DANCEPL3Y promotes positive mental health through the Three Rules of PL3Y: Be Positive, Be Fun, Be Yourself. Students will get active and be inspired to PLAY with dance! DANCEPL3Y allows students to explore simple movements from a variety of dance styles from around the world (Hip Hop, Urban, Ballroom, Bollywood, Lyrical, Jazz/Funk and more!). DANCEPL3Y School Programs are specifically designed to promote positive mental health and meet curriculum outcomes for Health and Physicall Education.
St. Timothy | Make a Difference
Through the Make a Difference Project, each class in the school will learn that it is possible to create change in themselves, their school and their community through service. The students will be exposed to books, videos and websites that highlight difference makers around the world. Our Catholic lens will help them examine how Jesus calls us to be of service to others and to walk alongside those who are in need.
Mother Margaret Mary | The Changemaker Project
We want to infuse our school with actual projects that will make a difference in the lives of our community members. By providing a wide array of altruistic initiatives, we allow the students to see that the ways they can be Changmakers are endless. In the past few years, the impact of Changemakers on the student' s perceptions of themselves and the world around them is affected in a profound way. We hope that, with the assistance of the Champion Projects Fund, we can continue to have an impact on students and create change through social justice.
St. Charles | Unifying God's Presence
In collaboration with our Multi-Disciplinary Early Learning Team, the school has a design to transform an unused classroom into an inclusive space where these children (and all children in the school) will have access to tools that teach them self-regulation skills while also building their relationship with God. Ultimately, providing them the opportunity to return to their classrooms able to learn and make achievements that reflect their full potential which aligns with ECSD goal: Students are Successful.
Archbishop O'Leary | Safety First, Football Second
Every Spring, the coaching staff offer a free Spring Camp to all our Archbishop O'Leary High school Gr 10-11 students as well as the Jr. High Feeder school Gr.9 students. This is a great experience for these students in our community to come and get to know each other and learn to work together. lf they all become part of the "O'Leary Spartan Family" and get the opportunity to feel comfortable before they start their High School journey.
St. Matthew | Buttons Bronzed with Blessings
The students' goal for the buttons is multi-facetted. First to promote the Leadership Team as helpers/role models in the school. This will give the Leadership Team a sense of responsibility and pride in what they are doing. Second, the buttons will be used to recognize students for their positive, caring behaviours (monthly assemblies) and hopefully improve our school climate by creating an open and respectful environment. Third, the buttons are another way for students to engage in Bible verses and express their faith. Lastly, to have some fun! The Leadership Team talked about creating buttons to sell for fun holidays such as St. Patrick's Day and St. Valentine's Day.
St. Francis of Assisi | Outdoor Recess Project
The goal is to purchase activity bins for students to improve recess experience and decrease negative recess incidents.
Christ the King | Board Game Club
The purpose of the club is to support students in building a strong sense of community. Provide a warm and Friendly place for students to make friends, feel connected and interact in a positive way with heir peers.
